Mississippi State Fires Zach Arnett as Head Football Coach

Arnett Out After Just One Season

Lackluster 2023 Season Led to Dismissal

Mississippi State has fired head football coach Zach Arnett after just one season at the helm of the program, athletic director Zac Selmon announced on Monday.

Arnett's dismissal comes after a lackluster 2023 season in which the Bulldogs posted a 3-9 record, with their only SEC win coming in a 7-3 slog over Arkansas. Mississippi State also suffered embarrassing losses to Memphis, Louisiana Tech, and Bowling Green during the campaign.

Arnett was hired by Mississippi State in December 2021, following the tragic death of former head coach Mike Leach. He was initially given the interim tag but was named the full-time head coach in February 2022.

Mississippi State's decision to fire Arnett marks a disappointing end to a tenure that began with high expectations. The Bulldogs are now tasked with finding a new head coach who can lead them to success in the SEC.
